To protect people attending the Yorkshire Preservatory’s preserve making workshops the following precautions are in place:

Ventilation:

Preserve making is a hot business so fresh air is circulated continually via windows and open doors to the garden.

Social distancing

Group size varies from 1-4 people. Attendees always know each other as once the workshop is booked (and paid for) I close that booking date; that includes workshops for just 1 person.

Space wise it is large enough for attendees and the workshop leader to be 1 metre apart when preparing the produce used to make the preserves. People can cook on an induction hob apart from others if they are not comfortable standing next to someone at the gas hob.

Handwashing and hygiene

There is a separate sink for attendees to wash their hands with soap and water in the work space. The nature of the task means that you will be washing your hands frequently. A separate hand towel will also be provided for each attendee.

Surfaces throughout the house and workspace are cleaned and disinfected frequently especially those which are regularly touched.

There is a toilet in the utility room for your sole use throughout the day. One use handtowels will be available for use.

Utensils and equipment

All equipment used is sanitised before use. The workshop leader does all the washing up throughout the day ensuring all utensils and equipment is thoroughly clean and ready for use. All produce is washed prior to preparing and only the attendee will be handling the food they will be preparing and cooking once they begin cooking. Jars for bottling are fully sterilised by the attendees prior to filling and sealing.

Facecoverings

Making preserves is a hot business. The workshop leader is fully vaccinated and as such is not required to wear a mask but will do so if the attendees request it. Equally the workshop leader will not require attendees to wear masks unless they choose to.

Refreshments

Lunch is eaten in the garden if weather allows (bring a fleece for chillier days) or in the conservatory with patio doors open. If you would prefer to bring your own lunch and drinks for the day please let the Workshop Leader know at the time of booking or when discussing the day with her; otherwise a light lunch and drinks are provided.

Covid tests

The workshop leader will always take a rapid flow test prior to the running of the workshop as indeed you might wish to too. If either party has a positive result the workshop can be rearranged for a later date.

Further measures?

Please contact the workshop leader if you have any other queries regarding preventative measures put in place to limit the spread of Covid.
